What is the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model?

Our brains and bodies have an innate ability to detect safety or danger, often without conscious awareness. Dr. Stephen Porges, the creator of Polyvagal Theory, referred to this subconscious process as neuroception. While neuroception plays a vital role in our survival, chronic stress and trauma can disrupt this system, leaving the nervous system stuck in a constant state of danger. This can cause the body to cycle through survival states, which manifest differently for different people. These states may include chronic stress, hyperarousal, and hypervigilance (often associated with the "fight or flight" response), dissociation, overwhelm, or shutdown (commonly referred to as the "freeze" response), among others.

The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model (FSPM) is a therapeutic approach that combines neuroscience and somatic healing to address nervous system imbalances and regain a sense of safety and connection. Unlike traditional talk therapy, FSPM focuses on the body’s intuitive processing of sensations and emotions. By tapping into the nervous system’s wisdom, FSPM addresses the root causes of emotional pain, promoting recovery from trauma, anxiety, addiction, and burnout, while fostering lasting self-awareness and resilience.

About the Programme

The 12 week FSPM Programme is available nationwide via Zoom and delivered by Neuroscientist and trauma and addiction specialist Hannah Westphal (Bsc.). It is a structured programme designed to transition your nervous system from a state of survival to one of safety and connection by combining virtual sessions, practical tools and guided independent exploration.

  • Virtual Sessions: 12 weekly Zoom sessions with Hannah lasting 60 Minutes. You’ll engage in an additional 30 minutes of independent exercises after each session with Hannah available for support if needed.
  • Independent Exploration & Practice: You’ll explore further between sessions with practices and exercises to deepen your progress. You may choose artistic practices to support your work if desired.

You’ll have access to our secure portal Practice Better, where you can contact Hannah and receive ongoing support between sessions ensuring you feel guided and confident throughout.

You’ll start with a 15 Minute call to learn more about the approach, ensuring it’s the right fit for you. The cost of your call is redeemable against a full consultation with Hannah. If you’re still unsure you can book a 60 minute Neuro-Psychoeducation session to experience Hannah’s approach before committing to the programme.

In your initial programme sessions, you’ll explore how your nervous system responds to stress and identify areas of emotional or physical dysregulation. Hannah will provide neuro-psychoeducation to help you understand how your brain and body work together, laying the foundation for healing.

You’ll meet weekly to engaging in somatic awareness techniques, such as tuning into bodily sensations, and, if desired, creative practices like art or movement. These approaches allow you to process emotions that can’t always be expressed verbally.
