DNA Testing & Nutrigenomics

Nutrigenomics DNA Test: Methylation Panel

Discover how your genes influence methylation, one of the body’s most important biological processes. This DNA test may be particularly useful for individuals looking to better understand factors affecting mood, cognition, cardiovascular health, healthy ageing, nutrient requirements and overall wellbeing.

The Methylation Panel analyses 27 key genetic pathways involved in nutrient metabolism, neurotransmitter balance, detoxification and cellular repair. By identifying genetic variations that influence how your body functions, the test provides lifelong insight that can help guide more informed nutrition, lifestyle and health decisions.

Why choose this test?

Methylation is one of the most important processes happening inside your body every second of every day.

It helps regulate how genes are expressed, supports detoxification, influences mood and cognitive function, contributes to cardiovascular health, assists cellular repair, and helps your body utilise key nutrients such as folate and vitamin B12.

When methylation pathways are not functioning optimally, it may contribute to a wide range of health challenges and make it harder to understand why certain symptoms or health patterns keep occurring.

This panel provides advanced insight into the genetic factors that influence your methylation pathways.

Unlike standard health tests, your DNA does not change over time. This means your genetic blueprint can provide lifelong insight to help guide more personalised health choices.

The digital report provides advanced insights that can help guide nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement decisions, reducing guesswork and supporting a more targeted approach to health optimisation.

If you’d like guidance from an expert practitioner consider booking a consultation with our Functional Medicine team for Nutrigenomics.

Your report includes:

  • Genotype results
  • Gene function summaries
  • SNP impact descriptions
  • Clinically relevant genetic variations
  • Nutrient and metabolic pathway analysis
  • Epigenetic and lifestyle insights

Your DNA sample will be anonymised before processing at the UK lab. DNA samples and genotyping data are permanently destroyed after strict retention periods. For more information please read our Privacy Policy.

Who is it for?

Adults and children concerned about:

  • Mood and mental wellbeing
  • Focus, cognition and neurodevelopment
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Metabolic health
  • Healthy ageing and longevity
  • Preconception and pregnancy planning

Or anyone looking to:

  • Understand genetic factors that may influence detoxification capacity
  • Support longevity, resilience and recovery
  • Explore methylation-related nutrient requirements
  • Take a more personalised approach to health optimisation and preventative wellbeing

What gets tested?

The test analyses 27 key genes including genetic variations known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). These small differences in your DNA can influence how your body functions and responds to factors such as nutrition, lifestyle and environmental exposures. SNPs are not a diagnosis or a prediction of disease. They provide insight into your unique genetic blueprint, helping support more personalised health and wellbeing decisions.

Folate Metabolism: Assesses genes that influence how efficiently your body may process and use folate, a key nutrient involved in pregnancy, DNA repair, cellular health and methylation. Includes: DHFR, FOLH1, MTHFD1, MTHFR, RFC1, SHMT1, TYMS.

Methylation Function: Assesses genetic pathways involved in one of the body’s most important biological processes, influencing energy production, detoxification, cardiovascular health and cellular function. Includes: AHCY, BHMT, CHDH, FUT2, MAT1A, MTR, MTRR, PEMT, TCN2.

Mood, Focus & Brain Chemistry: Assesses genes involved in the production and regulation of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which influence mood, focus, motivation and cognitive function. Includes: COMT, MAOA, MAOB, MTHFR, PNMT, QDPR, VDR.

Detoxification & Cellular Protection: Assesses genetic pathways involved in removing toxins, managing oxidative stress and protecting cells from everyday environmental and metabolic demands. Includes: CBS, CTH, GSS, MUT, SUOX.

Cardiovascular Health: Assesses genetic pathways involved in homocysteine metabolism, an important process linked to healthy blood vessels and cardiovascular function. Includes markers across the Folate and Methylation pathways.

Nutrient Requirements: Assesses genetic factors that may influence your body’s need for key nutrients that support methylation, including folate and vitamin B12. Includes markers across multiple methylation pathways.

How do I prepare for the test?

You should:

  • Follow the collection instructions carefully
  • Complete and sign the consent form before returning your sample
  • Return the sample as soon as possible after collection

You shouldn’t:

  • Eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke within one hour of testing

The test is designed to be simple and non-invasive.

However, please make sure to follow the instructions and complete the documentation to ensure your sample can be analysed. Samples that aren’t suitable will need to be recollected at an additional cost.

Sample Type

At-home cheek swab DNA sample.

How will I get my results?

You’ll be invited to join our online portal, Practice Better, where you can securely access your results and communications.

Once your sample arrives at the laboratory, analysis typically takes around 14 working days. Once available, your report will be shared securely through the portal for download and future reference. You may also choose to book an optional consultation with a qualified practitioner at this stage.

FAQ's

Turnaround times vary depending on the test. We aim to process and submit your order to our provider within 2 working days. Test kits are promptly dispatched, and most samples can be collected and returned as soon as you're ready. Some tests may have specific requirements, such as timing around menstruation or return days. These details can be found under "How do I prepare for the test?" and in your kit. Estimated turnaround times refer to how long it takes to analyse your sample once it’s received at the laboratory.

All at-home test kits include clear instructions for sample collection and return, along with necessary packaging. Some tests require you to return the sample on specific days or immediately after collection. Most kits include pre-paid return labels, but some may require you to arrange a prepaid courier collection. Review the instructions carefully before collecting your sample and refer to the contact details in your kit for any questions.

Your kit will come with full instructions and some include video guides. We can support with queries and we encourage you to contact us using the link below before collecting your sample to ensure it can be effectively analysed.

We offer functional testing with and without practitioner interpretation. You can filter tests by consultation on the Functional Testing page. Certain tests, especially those involving clinically significant biomarkers, are only available with interpretation, and some require interpretation by an Integrative Medicine Doctor. We’ll ensure you’re seen by the right practitioner when your results are in. You can purchase a consultation later if you choose standalone testing, but we offer preferential rates for booking upfront.

We provide functional testing to help you make informed health decisions but do not offer medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Results are interpreted through a nutritional, lifestyle, and functional medicine perspective, and it is your responsibility to seek further evaluation, diagnosis or treatment from your primary healthcare provider.

Your digital results report will include indicators of how your specific results differ or align with ‘optimal’ ranges in functional medicine. Some reports include an element of written interpretation. If you’ve purchased a consultation we’ll explain your results and interpret them from a nutritional, lifestyle and functional medicine perspective. We may offer suggestions about how Integrative or Functional Medicine can help and can refer you for full consultation or Integrative Health Assessment with a relevant practitioner if desired. If your test includes a clinically significant biomarker and your result is abnormal, we’ll direct you to consult your primary healthcare provider. If you haven’t purchased a consultation and you’re concerned about your results, you’ll be able to opt-in at this stage.

All third party testing providers are GDPR compliant and adhere strictly to regulatory and industry standards for processing sensitive health data in line with their own Privacy Policies (available on the product page). Results are shared with The Forbes Clinic via each provider's secure online portal and with you via our secure online portal, Practice Better. The Forbes Clinic handles your personal data with care and sensitivity in line with GDPR and according to the terms laid out in our Privacy Policy.
