If you’ve been struggling with ongoing sinus congestion, facial pressure, postnasal drip or recurrent infections, this advanced at-home sinus microbiome test can help uncover what may be contributing to your symptoms. Using qPCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS), it identifies bacteria, fungi, microbial load and antimicrobial resistance markers to provide a comprehensive picture of your sinus microbiome.

Many sinus and upper respiratory tests only screen for a limited number of bacteria. This can leave important pathogens undiscovered, particularly in chronic or recurrent cases, after antibiotic use, or when multiple microorganisms are present.
This advanced SinusKey test can be taken from the comfort of home. It combines next-generation sequencing (NGS) with targeted qPCR technology to provide a far more comprehensive assessment than standard culture or targeted PCR testing alone. NGS identifies all detectable bacteria and fungi within your sample, while qPCR measures bacterial load and screens for 17 antimicrobial resistance genes. Together, these technologies provide a detailed picture of your upper respiratory microbiome and identify organisms that standard testing may miss.
These insights can help guide more personalised functional medicine support by identifying microbial imbalances, persistent pathogens and antimicrobial resistance patterns that may be contributing to ongoing sinus, nasal and upper respiratory symptoms.
Adults experiencing:
Comprehensive NGS Microbiome Sequencing: Identifies all detectable bacteria and fungi within your sample using next-generation sequencing (NGS), providing a far more comprehensive picture than standard culture or targeted PCR testing.
Bacterial Load: Measures the overall bacterial load to help assess the extent of microbial overgrowth.
Antimicrobial Resistance: Screens for 17 antimicrobial resistance genes associated with antibiotic resistance to support more informed support.

You’ll be invited to join our online portal, Practice Better, where you can receive secure communication from us. Your digital results report will be ready approximately 7 days from receipt of your sample at the lab. Once received, we’ll share your results within the secure portal where you can review and download. You’ll be able to opt-in to a results consultation with a qualified practitioner for further guidance at this stage.
See our Privacy Policy for information about how your data will be processed by The Forbes Clinic and our third party testing suppliers.
Turnaround times vary depending on the test. We aim to process and submit your order to our provider within 2 working days. Test kits are promptly dispatched, and most samples can be collected and returned as soon as you're ready. Some tests may have specific requirements, such as timing around menstruation or return days. These details can be found under "How do I prepare for the test?" and in your kit. Estimated turnaround times refer to how long it takes to analyse your sample once it’s received at the laboratory.
All at-home test kits include clear instructions for sample collection and return, along with necessary packaging. Some tests require you to return the sample on specific days or immediately after collection. Most kits include pre-paid return labels, but some may require you to arrange a prepaid courier collection. Review the instructions carefully before collecting your sample and refer to the contact details in your kit for any questions.
Your kit will come with full instructions and some include video guides. We can support with queries and we encourage you to contact us using the link below before collecting your sample to ensure it can be effectively analysed.
We offer functional testing with and without practitioner interpretation. You can filter tests by consultation on the Functional Testing page. Certain tests, especially those involving clinically significant biomarkers, are only available with interpretation, and some require interpretation by an Integrative Medicine Doctor. We’ll ensure you’re seen by the right practitioner when your results are in. You can purchase a consultation later if you choose standalone testing, but we offer preferential rates for booking upfront.
We provide functional testing to help you make informed health decisions but do not offer medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Results are interpreted through a nutritional, lifestyle, and functional medicine perspective, and it is your responsibility to seek further evaluation, diagnosis or treatment from your primary healthcare provider.
Your digital results report will include indicators of how your specific results differ or align with ‘optimal’ ranges in functional medicine. Some reports include an element of written interpretation. If you’ve purchased a consultation we’ll explain your results and interpret them from a nutritional, lifestyle and functional medicine perspective. We may offer suggestions about how Integrative or Functional Medicine can help and can refer you for full consultation or Integrative Health Assessment with a relevant practitioner if desired. If your test includes a clinically significant biomarker and your result is abnormal, we’ll direct you to consult your primary healthcare provider. If you haven’t purchased a consultation and you’re concerned about your results, you’ll be able to opt-in at this stage.
