You’ve tried the diets, the probiotics, and the quick fixes. Now, let’s look deeper. At The Forbes Clinic we offer a comprehensive, Functional Medicine approach to IBS, SIBO, bloating, and leaky gut.
IBS affects around 1 in 10 people in the UK. It's one of the most common reasons for a GP visit. But for most people, the journey stops at a diagnosis and a handful of generic recommendations for symptom management. You might be told to try the low-FODMAP diet, take Buscopan when it flares up and manage stress. You follow the advice, but often nothing really changes. You're still working around your symptoms, still guessing at triggers and still experiencing:
The standard approach aims to manage symptoms, but it rarely investigates what’s driving them. And while dietary recommendations can help, they’re often generic and leave you figuring out triggers on your own.
Our team of registered Functional Medicine Practitioners use advanced functional testing to uncover the hidden factors that may be driving or contributing to your IBS symptoms. These test are far more in-depth than the standard tests available through the NHS. The aim is to build a detailed picture of what's happening in your gut and the broader systems that impact it.

“My consultation with Marie to review my test results was incredibly valuable. She combines deep knowledge with a very reassuring and compassionate approach. I felt genuinely listened to and validated, and she helped me make sense of a lot of complex information in a clear and supportive way. I'm very grateful for her guidance and feel confident continuing to work with her as I move forward on my health journey.”
"Really happy with my journey at the Forbes Clinic. Whether it's for specific tests that you cannot easily find elsewhere, or their teams at the reception and therapists, they're all excellent. [...] My absolute favourite is working with Jo Gamble, as after 2 years of trying to figure out what was wrong and knowing that what I felt was real, Jo was able to understand and see me fully from the first appointment. And almost 4 months in, I finally see progress. Highly recommend Forbes Clinic."

Your GP provides an important first step: ruling out other conditions, making a diagnosis, and offering initial guidance. We build on that with advanced functional testing that isn't typically available through the NHS, such as comprehensive stool analysis and SIBO breath testing. This allows us to look more closely at what may be contributing to your symptoms and build a more targeted support plan.
No. You can book directly with us. However, we'd always recommend seeing your GP first to rule out any conditions that may need urgent medical attention.
This depends on your symptoms and history. Common tests include comprehensive stool analysis, SIBO breath testing, food sensitivity panels, and intestinal permeability assessments. Your practitioner will recommend specific tests based on your initial consultation. We always discuss costs before recommending anything.
Most patients work with us over three to six months, though this varies depending on complexity. We'll give you a realistic idea of timeline after your initial consultation. Some cases are shorter, some longer.
Yes. Our IBS support is fully remote and delivered entirely via video consultation. Most testing is done at home with postal kits. Our clinic support team are on hand to guide you through the process and can also arrange blood draws at a nearby location if recommended by your practitioner. All follow-ups are virtual.
Some health insurance providers may cover consultations with our practitioners but some may not. You should check with your provider before booking. Please not there may be a small additional fee for preparing reports or paperwork required by insurers.
Our testing works differently to standard NHS panels. Rather than a simple normal or abnormal result, we're looking at detailed patterns across your gut health, so there's always something to learn from. Every result helps build the picture and shape your support plan. We'll never recommend unnecessary testing and will always seek your approval first.
Many of our patients come to us after years of managing symptoms without clear answers. The difference is the testing. Rather than working from symptoms alone, we use advanced functional testing to identify specific factors that may be driving or contributing to your IBS and overall symptoms. That means your support plan is built on evidence, not trial and error.
